P3 = The Plastic Pollution Project

Welcome to Westport's Plastic Pollution Project

SES Composting Campaign

Fall 2019:   P3 has partnered with the Saugatuck Elementary School (SES) PTA to help fund their brand new "Composting" program.    It is vital that we add composting as an integral 3rd spoke of our waste systems-- both to reduce the environmentally harmful effects of food waste in our landfills (and incinerators)-- and to scale-up infrastructure that will soon be able to process compostable alternatives to traditional petroleum-based plastics.   P3 believes the best place to start is in our schools--  where the children learn about our waste problems, bring that information home to their families, and will hopefully solve our critical waste & pollution problems in their lifetimes!

Last spring, P3 helped  jumpstart the SES COMPOSTING PROGRAM.   Thanks to the great enthusiasm of SES staff (who volunteered their time and effort to create the program) -- as well as the children who have assiduously and passionately embraced the efforts -- the program was deemed a great success and the SES PTA voted to continue the program throughout the 2019-20 school year.    We believe the program is already proving its tremendous value to the students and the community and will become a part of all Westport schools policy (and budgeting) but until 2020/21 budgets can be voted on, this pilot program needs YOUR support through the current school year.   The roughly $4000 required to run the program goes entirely to the 3rd party "Curbside Composting" (https://www.curbcompost.org) while management of the effort and education is 100% volunteer thanks to the amazing teachers, staff and THE KIDS at Saugatuck Elementary.    Use the button below to donate now!    100% of your donation (less any credit card fees) will go directly to the program and is fully tax-deductible.   Just select "SES Composting Initiative" to earmark your donation for the program.   (Note:  "P3" is a fiscally sponsored by "Earthplace LLC" who will provide the tax receipt for your donation)    For further information about the program, or to make donations by check or cash, please contact Sarin Cheung  at The SES PTA) at sarinpta@gmail.com
